1. Tổng hợp kiến thức về thì Quá khứ đơn

Công thức thì quá khứ đơn:

	Với động từ to be	Với động từ thường
Khẳng định	S + was/were + O	S + V2/ed + O
Phủ định	S + was/were + not + O	S + didn’t + V(nguyên thể) + O
Nghi vấn	Was/were + S + O?	Did + S + V(nguyên thể) + O?
WH-question	WH-word + was/ were + S (+ not) + O?	WH-word + did + S + (not) + V (nguyên mẫu)?

Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn:

• Diễn tả một hành động, sự việc đã diễn ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể, hoặc một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và đã kết thúc hoàn toàn ở quá khứ.
• Diễn tả một thói quen trong quá khứ
• Diễn tả một hành động diễn ra sau một hành động khác trong quá khứ
• Diễn tả một hành động lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ.
• Diễn đạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ.
• Diễn tả một hành động xen vào một hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ.
  (Hành động đang diễn ra chia thì quá khứ tiếp diễn, hành động xen vào chia thì quá khứ đơn) 
• Dùng trong câu điều kiện loại II (câu điều kiện không có thật ở hiện tại)
• Dùng trong câu ước không có thật 
• Dùng trong một số cấu trúc:

It’s + (high) time + S + Ved It + is + khoảng thời gian + since + thì quá khứ

• Dùng để miêu tả một sự kiện lịch sử.

Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn:

• Các từ khóa thời gian trong quá khứ:
  • Yesterday (hôm qua)
  • Last week/month/year (tuần/tháng/năm trước)
  • Ago (trước đây)
  • When (khi)
  • In 1999 (năm 1999)

• Sau as if, as though (như thể là), it’s time (đã đến lúc), if only, wish (ước gì), would sooner/ rather (thích hơn).
